Fire, one of the most destructive forces of the climate crisis, is so contagious that it brings people together and does not allow by- stander apathy. Glancing through the history of fire, ‘Fire Walk’ focuses on one hand on the primordial relationship of the Earth’s first fires with plants, and on the other the ways in which fire, an ecological agent, shapes the Earth. ‘Fire Walk’ tracks fire, both as a colossal threat and an evolutionary companion. The book draws a subjective map of fire through its psychoanalytic, evolutionary, mythological and plastic aspects. ‘Fire Walk’ is a part of Burcu Yağcıoğlu and Ülgen Semerci’s ongoing collaborative art project which focuses on fire. An interview with an artist who lost decades of work in a studio fire, an imaginary experience of a future art installation, and a fire ecologist who recognises fire not only as a destroyer but also as a creator are some of the contents that make up this book.
